Today is Memorial Day, and for all of our friends, family members, and loved ones who have sacrificed for us, I want to just say one word.
To my ancestor, James Farrell, who served in the Union Army and later served his community as a Federal Postmaster.
To my uncles, Joe and Al, who served us in World War I and whose contracting the Spanish Influenza in their camp led to shorter lives.
To my cousin Marlin who served in Korea and my cousin John who died in the closing days of WW II.
To the countless people I have met on this and my previous campaigns – to the soldier who told me his harrowing experiences liberating Bergen Belsen to Tacoma City Editor Jim Anderson who survived Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Theatre.
To all those who served with honor, with pride in our nation, and who still serve to try to return our county to the beacon on the hill it once was.
